Creative Spark: Marcy-Holmes
Creative Spark is a collection of historic and contemporary creative works inspired by Marcy-Holmes, Minneapolis’ first neighborhood. From early engravings of the only true waterfall on the Mississippi to crime fiction set on local streets, to a feature film shot in a fabled coffee shop to site-specific music, dance and live performance events … Marcy-Holmes has served as creative muse for more than 150 years.
This gallery is a small sampling of the nearly 200 works gathered in the first phase of the Creative Spark project. As we move ahead, we’ll be expanding the collection to feature a greater diversity of artists, more creative forms and media, and the full historical scope of the region as both the “first place” of Native Americans and “birthplace” of Minneapolis. Our goal is to eventually offer an online, searchable gallery that is continuously expanded as new works are created and discovered, a living collection for enjoyment and study.

Creative Spark is made possible by a grant from the Saint Anthony Falls Heritage Board and contributions from the Marcy-Holmes Neighborhood Association and its Creative Places Committee. Chris Lautenschlager served as Phase I and II Project Manager, now Kerrie Workman has taken over this role.
