This print is the earliest known view of Saint Anthony Falls, and was included in the 1778 publication, Johnathan Carvers Travels Through The Interior Parts of North America, In The Years 1766, 1767, and 1768. Captain Carver undertook the first wildnerness exploration in service to the English Crown and spent three years canoeing and trekking through the region around the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River. His journey covered thousands of miles and he returned to Britain with journals that were to become one of the most unusual books in travel literature.
