Illinois aIllinois artist James Butler's paintings have been exhibited and shared all across the country and abroad. His passion for the legacy and tradition of landscape painting and his aesthetic commitment to expressing the deeper stories contained within the natural world inspired him to embark an on-going artistic journey focused on the Mississippi River; from 1978 up until the very present, his brushes and canvases have been connected to the Mississippi. He waited two years to paint this emotional painting at the Falls of Saint Anthony at the cusp of spring, when the ice was cracking. Through it, Butler documents nature's powerful, evolutionary ways, and the continued and intertwined movements of time, people, and place across centuries.
